THE INFLUENCE OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS ON COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE
Abstract: This study aimed to investigate the influence of information systems on competitive advantage within organizations. The objectives were to analyze how information systems enhance market positioning, differentiate products/services, and sustain competitive advantages over rivals. A survey research design was employed to collect quantitative data from 280 respondents, selected using the Taro Yamane formula to ensure representation across industries emphasizing competitive strategy and market dynamics. The study focused on a case study of a technology firm in Kaduna, known for its innovative product development and agile market responsiveness supported by information systems. Conducted in Kaduna, the reliability coefficient score was calculated at 0.89, indicating strong internal consistency in survey responses. The findings highlighted that information systems contribute to competitive advantage by enabling data-driven insights, supporting customer-focused strategies, and facilitating rapid adaptation to market changes. The study recommends that organizations invest in customer analytics, leverage real-time market data, and integrate agile IT infrastructures to sustain competitive advantages, foster innovation, and achieve market leadership in dynamic and competitive industries.
